Ask your MP: Sign the Be the Change pledge

We all choose Fairtrade because we want to be the change we want to see in the world.

This Fairtrade Fortnight, ask your MP to join you and commit to do everything they can to change trade for the better. Ask them to sign the Be the Change pledge.

By signing, your MP is committing to listen to farmers and workers dealing with the reality of unfair trade every day.

What does unfair trade mean?

For millions of small-scale farmers, it means you are unable to earn enough to provide your family with decent food, education or medical care.

It’s your crop failing due to an escalating climate crisis caused by the world’s wealthiest. A crop you can't afford to replace.

It means being excluded from conversations about the future sustainability of your industry, despite having expert knowledge of your land that has grown across generations.

We choose Fairtrade because we know this needs to change – and it can change if we all act now. Ask your MP to sign the Be the Change pledge today, so we can change trade for good.

What is the Be the Change pledge?

The full wording of the Be the Change pledge is below. This is a simple commitment we are asking all MPs to make to join Fairtrade supporters like you in building a fairer future.

‘I commit to working with fair trade campaigners in my constituency, and in Parliament, to support farmers and workers affected by unfair trade all around the world and to build a fairer future.’

'I recognise that farmers and workers in lower-income countries urgently need fair pay and must be part of the conversations on how to tackle the poverty and climate crisis that threatens their future.

'As an MP, I will do everything I can to make sure trade, development and climate policies contribute to this fairer future that benefits all.’
